Panama Scouting - Days 2 & 3 - Panama City - Darth Vader Returns
Miguel and the Panama City Skyline

Yesterday, I melted.  No photos by me, of me, nor of anything else.  The heat and humidity near the canal make it difficult for me to function; Miguel suggested that I switch on my "tropical setting", but I am apparently an older model, and I don't have Tropical Mode.  We made short trips to find food and a pharmacy, and I could feel the burn through my SPF 55 sunscreen.  I had a similar reaction in Bahia, northern Brazil, so it was easy to recognize - blank stare, short and terse responses, always looking for a bit of shade and AC, drinking water constantly with no desire for food, good at napping.

Darth Vader returns after having gotten stranded in San Francisco, CA.

You may remember that we threatened a trip to the Albrook Mall - the biggest mall in Latin America - to trigger the delivery of our luggage.  The threat was all it took!  Our luggage was delivered after breakfast and just as we were preparing to call an Uber to take us to the Mall.  After our 24-hour trip and 36 hours in the tropics in the same clothes, I am certain we were not the only ones to appreciate the arrival of our fresh clothing and toiletries!

Today, we took a tour and saw several areas of Panama City.  One stop was the Causeway connecting 3 islands and making a breakwater for the canal on the Pacific side.  From a turnout on the Causeway, I took this panoramic view of Panama City.  Most of the skyscrapers have been built since the USA turned over the Canal to Panama in 1999 - from the water, a very modern and new city!
More tomorrow from Panama City!
